Notes about the KDM sheet music arrangement of
“Storms are on the Ocean.”
The KDM music project is showing the lyrics where a man and
woman play and sing in tandem about their commitment to remain
true to each other. It is played in G Major (both in the Low Octave G
for the man and in mezzo G Major for the woman).
The KDM music
arrangement just sings the man’s part, but the music can
accommodate the woman’s part if desired.
I'm going away to leave you love.
I'm going away for a while,
But I'll return to see you
sometime
Oh, Have you seen those
mournful doves
A’ Flying from pine to pine?
A-mournin' for their own true love
Just like I mourn for mine.
If I go ten thousand miles.
Chorus
Chorus
The storms are on the ocean.
The heavens may cease to be.
This world may lose
its motion love.
If I prove false to thee.
I'll never go back on the ocean
love.
I'll never go back on the sea.
I'll never go back on my blue-
eyed girl.
'Til she goes back to me.
Oh, who will dress your pretty
little feet,
Chorus
And who will glove your hand?
Oh, who will kiss your rosy red
cheeks
Oh, Never go back on the Ocean
Love.
When I'm in a foreign land?
Oh, Never go back on the Sea.
Oh, Never go back on this blue-
eyed girl,
Chorus
I pray you’ll come home to me.
Oh, Papa will dress my pretty little
feet,
Chorus
And Mama will glove my hand,
And, You may kiss my rosy red
cheeks
When you return home again.
Chorus
Some believe that the inspiration for this folk
song came from a time when the Americans
fought the British in the War of 1812
.
